Reconnect the city with the railway undergrounding project
Future in 15 mins is an international forum organised by the Department of Urban Development, Taoyuan City Government. Centred on French scholar Carlos Moreno’s concept of the 15-minute city, the forum takes the Taoyuan Railway Undergrounding Project as a key catalyst for urban transformation. Bringing together professionals and the public, the forum opens up a conversation around mobility, housing, culture, and everyday life, asking how a city might become more liveable and resilient through shorter journeys and closer connections. The key visual is built around the language of the coordinate grid, translating the reachable radius of a 15-minute walk or cycle into a visual structure; combining the corridor opened up by the railway undergrounding project and the planned Taoyuan Metro Green Line network, it maps out a linear urban landscape poised for change. A vivid pink palette, paired with details in the event logotype inspired by a train wheel flange, underscores the forum’s close relationship with Taoyuan’s rail infrastructure. The pattern, resembling stitches, reflects the city’s north and south sides, once divided by the railway and now being reconnected through urban renewals.
Rather than remaining confined to print and social media, the identity extends into the venue itself. From the media interview area and the central installation to wayfinding throughout the space, the coordinate grid and linear elements were translated onto walls, floors, and spatial volumes across multiple scales. Much like the issues explored by the forum itself, the design moves beyond concept and representation, taking shape as a tangible spatial experience grounded in the relationship between people and place.
